More and more people use mobile gadgets to access online content, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To fulfill this demand, the entity that manages the generic domain name extensions, ICANN, established the .MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the intention behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain restrictions. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be developed to be opened correctly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” created by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in cooperation with the .MOBI Registry. These incorporate how a page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The restrictions have induced some worries given the fact that the universal top-level domain name extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to access a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be created in such a way as to be opened by the majority of browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Considering the fact that the dot MOBI Registry does not sell domains directly, you can acquire a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an already registered domain, you can also move it over to our firm if you obtain its EPP transfer key from your current registrar. If you do that, you’ll be able to administrate your domain(s) and hosting account from one place – our Hepsia Control Panel interface.
