An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer and serves as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also use an Operating System that serves as a host for any software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions come with three Linux releases which you could select from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being cost-free, the OSs are very stable and risk-free and the reason to offer you the three of them is to ensure that you'll be able to run any app that you would like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a huge community of developers who have made many hundreds of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you choose, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to manage your web hosting content. Also, should you decide that you need some other OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on the server as different apps may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you would like to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
